As a teenager I once dug a 6' deep trench in the beach. Now I know how dangerous that was...
Dirt is way heavier than people think it is, and it can become unstable in an instant. For reference, a single cubic yard of dry soil weighs about 2,000 lb. If someone were inside a hole of that size while it collapsed, they would be crushed to death before anyone even had a chance to grab a shovel. There is a proper and safe way to shore a hole while it is being dug, and this ain't it. That OSHA inspector being present absolutely saved that worker's life.
Three hours to make a trench thay size? Its been three weeks since they closed off the road to my house and they just broke throught the pavement yesterday :/
I mean, they did have a protective cage thingy in there at least. Maybe they just needed a bigger one?
idiots
I'm sure the "Boss" got a hefty fine from OSHA.
The worst part about being the safety guy, is how terrible youre treated every day, despite being there to ensure everyone comes home.
Screw you
This guy loves the sound of his own voice
I thought this was an origin story 😂
Harness?
Gravity is always right
Darwinism always wins
Yup yup
Yea we can fly but sticking the landing is definitely hard to survive.
21 feet in 3 hours? bullshit, they were there at least 6 hours.
The trench shield he was standing on would still have protected him from that collapse had he been in it.
Looks like you got a shoring problem (famous Oklahoma OSHA shoring video)
“Podium” ladders are complete trash. They are by far more dangerous then traditional A frame ladders. Also very heavy. Do people that require these podium ladders even use them or is it someone that sites behind a computer that thinks it’s all of a sudden a good idea….. I find myself needing to stand one down from the platform to complete work as I am taller then majority of people.
Good luck getting an OSHA compliance officer to visit a job site if Project 2025 is enacted.
Is there a downloadable OSHA standards construction please
For Oregon OSHA, all standards are available as PDF - the link to the training course in this video description is a quick way to get to the website. Look up Construction under the A to Z topic list, or from the top menu go to Rules, then to Division 3 Construction.
does the Secret service know about this training?
Dude forgot to check his nose before he got in front of the camera.
Fall protection should never be optional IMO
OSHA is great when they actually help. Most of my experience with safety officers and OSHA involve someone who knows nothing about the actual work being performed. Their books tells them that something is ok. I really wish they would’ve shown up to my last employer. I worked for a safety company that was FAR from safe!!!
I fell from a tree house that my Mother's boyfriend built. It was the ladder step that came undone from the tree. I fell probably 15 feet. When I fell, I was in shock wondering if I'm hurt. And then I cried because of the pain!
I got mangled on day. I'm held together by metal rods now. I'm alright though 😊
Pelvises? I think I’ve sprained one pelvis before but never both at once 😂
Were they union workers?
OSHA nut huggers be out here.
Thats gail hailstorm!
This is why project 2025 wants to do away with OSHA!
Where does it say that in project 2025?, Are you just taking someone’s word for that , you saw on some social media account or in the media. I’m reading it right now and I don’t see a single thing about dismantling OSHA. If so, on what page
Gotta love how the OSHA guy warns them, it happens, he says I told you so, and then offers zero help to the guy still stuck in the hole. Government…
There are 20 other guys there…. Why does the osha guy need to help? Use your smooth brain before you comment.
Talk about paying lip service to safety. That (inadequate) shoring box they had going in the hole was waaay too small for the size of the excavation too. Supervisor sounded like a proper dick tas well. As others have said, willing to put good money on one of the crew calling this in!
Boss: Get down in there and fix it up. Me: Pushes boss down in there instead.... and just like that, suddenly I'M the dick.
In Canada, you'd be shut right down. Our lives are more valuable than a sewer pipe.
OSHA: so you don’t have to say “O Shit!” later.
Unless humans have developed the ability to breathe SOIL, this inspector's not WRONG.🤔
Everyone always makes fun of OSHA but they're here for a reason
Red necks
I had a boss who blew off the most basic safety procedures and PPE…after a very short time as the “new guy”, I started to stand up for myself and say, “We’ve gotta do it this way (the safe way)” and he would say, “Why?”…knowing that logic and proper procedures meant nothing to him but $$$ did, I would say, “Because OSHA says so and we’re looking at some nice fines if we don’t”. He never really changed, but at least he stayed out of my way when I wanted to do things the right, safe way.
Why are the auditors wearing hard hats but the actual workers are not....?
To be an OSHA inspector it should be legal you have to work blue collar trades for 5 years before. They have no concept of how and what to do the job cause they have never physically done the labor. Osha people and super interdental are the most hated people on constructions site cause they don't do anything.
How do you still hold such a dumb opinion after watching a guy almost get buried alive? Your brain has no ridges.

21 ft and loose backfill surrounding the trench. Stupid is as stupid does. As an engineer I've walked up on highway sites where there are no signs up, excavators already in the road, excavators peeling up dirt right next to electrical transmission poles, and I have to start screaming for anyone to take me seriously.
Safety is for a reason and that reason is to stop contractors taking shortcuts to make more money
Not enough detail!
Was this another failed Trump project?
Yes trump is rebuilding sewers in Oregon….. smooth brain.
